Denver Stapleton Airport Redevelopment
In the mid-1990s, CRM joined with a number of national consultants
and the Stapleton Redevelopment Foundation to create a Master Plan for
the redevelopment of the seven square mile Stapleton Airport site. CRMs
contribution was a section on sustainable design, governing principles,
green building criteria, etc. The Master Plan went on to win a national
planning award from the American Planning Association (APA) and is widely
viewed as one of the most ambitious, most promising large scale "new
urbanism/sustainability" projects in the country today. A Master
Developer, Forest City, is currently in the initial stages of implementation.
CRM President Terry Minger, co-chairs the Stapleton Redevelopment Foundation
Board with regard to sustainability issues. CRM is also active in helping
to negotiate a variety of demonstration projects for the site, including
a major retail demonstration store and an energy efficiency "clearinghouse"
which will familiarize home builders and home buyers with off-the-shelf
energy efficiency features and technologies that can improve financial
and environmental performance. Finally, CRM is helping to raise the profile
of the Stapleton case study by bringing it to the attention of the international
sustainability audience.
